Winchester model 94 twist rate

Story of my new Model 70, 2012 Winchester Model 70 FeatherWeight, Feather Weight. I have 2 Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 rifles, both in 30.06 calibers, and both in great shape. I have 3 children that I want to pass a collectable gun to, when I pass away…so, I purchased a 3 rd Winchester Model 70. This gun is a Feather Weight, chambered in 300 WSM. This cartridge was designed specifically for use with 55 grain spitzer bullets and its twist rate was originally specified as 1:14". This was later tightened to 1:12" for long range shooting, which works very well with bullets weighing 40-60 grains, the usual .22 centerfire bullet weight range. From the standard Model 88 rifle or short action bolt action rifles, all featuring 22” barrels, the .284 Winchester is an immensely effective medium game cartridge. Winchester used a 1:10 twist rate in the M88, producing best accuracy with 120-150 grain bullets although it is not uncommon for this twist rate to shoot 160 grain bullets just ... MODEL 100 problems I currently have a model 100 carbine that I rec`d from my older brother`s family. ( previously owned a 22 inch barrel model 100 in the early 70`s ) There are serious problems associated with both of these rifles. You must repace the firing pin. ( this is under recall warranty.) They have a long history of jammimg . A slow twist rate would make a complete turn in 48 inches of forward travel. A faster twist would turn a full circle in 14 inches of linear travel and a super fast twist would be one turn in 9, 8 or 7 inches. Barrel Length Doesn't Change Rifling Twist Rate. A 48-inch, slow twist barrel doesn’t have to be 48 inches long to work properly. This cartridge is based on the .30-30 Winchester cartridge of 1895, but differs from the .30-30 in bullet diameter. For example, a 1:10 twist is good for 308 rounds up to 220 grs. Up to would indicate that a 150 gr bullet should work fine in a barrel with that twist.
